Drug Dosage:

Use Deltasone (Prednisone) exactly as it is prescribed; do not increase or decrease the dose without prescription.

This medication can be taken with meals to reduce likelihood of stomach upset.

Treatment must not be stopped abruptly; take this medication on a full course.

Missed Dose:

Do not miss doses of Deltasone, but if there are missed doses, take the missed dose as soon as it is remembered. Do not give a double dose, so if the missed dose is close to the next dose, skip it.

Warnings and Precautions:

Do not take if allergic to Deltasone or its components. Inform your health care provider of history of pass or current infections, heart problems, thyroid problems, liver disease, kidney disease, mood disorders, eye diseases, diabetes, electrolyte imbalances, seizures and bleeding problems.

Taking a corticosteroid makes the body immunocompromised, so physical stress, surgery, dental actions or infections must be avoided.

If surgery or any emergency medical treatment is necessary, inform that a corticosteroid is being taken.

Also, as the body is immunocompromised, it is better if individuals with current infections or flu is avoided.

Avoid contact with individuals who recently received live vaccines.

Inform health care provider immediately if experiencing unusual fatigue or weight loss.

Wear a medic alert bracelet if a long course of therapy is indicated. Do not drink any alcoholic beverages.

Pregnancy may not be a direct contraindication, however, long-term use may affect hormonal cycle.

Though this medication may pass the breast milk, it does not harm infants, but consulting the health care provider is still an immediate concern.

This medication may affect growth of children when used for long periods of time.

Inform your health care provider if any of these Deltasone (Prednisone) side effects persists:

• Nausea and vomiting


• Insomnia


• Loss of appetite


• Heartburn

If these serious side effects occur, inform your health care provider immediately:

• Arrhythmia


• Weakness


• Edema of the hands and feet


• Unusual weight gain


• Signs of infection


• Vision problems


• Coffee-ground vomitus


• Mood changes


• Alopecia


• Delayed wound healing


• Menstrual changes


• Seizures


• Easy bruising or bleeding


• Black or bloody stools
