One can take the medication with or without his/her meals.

However, it is very important to swallow the pill entirely without chewing or crushing it. If you are on Avodart, make sure you take the complete dosage and do not skip it.

You need to take all your doses on time without missing any. In case you unintentionally miss a dose, take it as soon as you realize. However, skip the dose if it is time for your next dose. You can now continue your usual dose.

Also, make sure that you do not go for a double dose in any case. It is very important to store Avodart at normal room temperature. Store it in a moisture free place.

In case of an overdose, seek required medical attention without wasting any delay. Make sure that you do not use the medication unless prescribed by your doctor.

You should avoid Avodart (Dutasteride) if:

You find yourself allergic to the ingredients present in Avodart or any other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor such as finasteride.
You are pregnant.

Avodart can enter the body through your skin. Pregnant women should never try broken or crushed tablets, as it may enter the blood through the skin and cause severe problems to the fetus. In case, a pregnant woman unintentionally makes contact with leaking capsules, she should immediately wash that particular area with water and soap. Moreover, it is very important to consult the doctor as soon as possible. Avodart remains in the blood for around 4 to 6 months even after you discontinue taking it. Therefore, avoid donating blood for a minimum of 6 months after you have taken the last dosage.

Avodart is also responsible for decrease in the ejaculate volume. However, this does not affect your sexual performance in anyway.

Avodart in some cases can affect prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which is a blood test carried out for screening prostate cancer. If you have undergone a PSA test while you were on the mediation, then inform your doctor about it.

You may have to undergo numerous lab tests for monitoring your progress. Moreover, these tests also check out for any possible side effects. Therefore, make sure you do not miss even a single lab appointment.

Avodart (Dutasteride) is not at all safe for children. Breastfeeding mothers need to avoid the medication.
